Boating Policies

Saugerties Marina Rental Policy:

Renting a boat from Saugerties Marina requires a certain level of skill and responsibility, and safety is always rule number one!

Over the years, these policies have been carefully crafted to prioritize your safety while ensuring you have a fantastic time exploring the scenic Hudson River. Please review the following guidelines and procedures before embarking on your boat rental adventure.

  • Safety Briefing and Orientation: Before renting a boat from Saugerties Marina without a captain, all renters are required to participate in a thorough safety briefing and orientation session; This is our One Hour Lesson. This should be booked seperately from your rental ahead of time. Based on availability, we may be able to complete the one hour lesson just before your rental for your convenience. Our knowledgeable staff of captains will provide essential information about the boat, its features, and safety protocols. This includes hands-on guidance on operating the vessel, understanding navigational rules, and emergency procedures. We want you to feel confident and well-prepared before setting sail.

  • Boat Operator Requirements: Renters must designate a responsible individual who will serve as the boat operator during the rental period. The designated operator must meet be 25 or older and have a valid boating license.

  • Responsible Alcohol Consumption: While we understand that many enjoy their time on the water with a drink in hand, we emphasize responsible alcohol consumption. It is permitted to consume alcoholic beverages on our boats only when a captain from Saugerties Marina is captaining the vessel. Operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited. Excessive alcohol consumption can impair judgment and increase the risk of accidents.

  • Weather and Water Conditions: The safety of our renters is of utmost importance to us. We closely monitor weather and water conditions to ensure safe boating experiences. We reserve the right to postpone or cancel rentals in cases of severe weather conditions that may compromise safety. All judgement calls on weather cancellations will be made by Saugerties Marina staff. Please note that weather is incredibly variable; In some cases, we may make our judgement call the morning of your rental date (don't worry we won't send you out in the rain...). Please contact our staff for any weather-related concerns.

  • Respect for Others and the Environment: We expect all renters to treat fellow boaters, swimmers, and the environment with respect. Adhere to speed limits, no-wake zones, and any restricted areas indicated on the provided navigational maps. Loud music, excessive noise, and disruptive behavior that may disturb other boaters or shoreline residents are not permitted. Additionally, it is crucial to maintain a clean and litter-free environment by properly disposing of trash and waste. Let's preserve the natural beauty of our surroundings together.

  • Damage and Liability: Renters are responsible for any damage caused to the boat during the rental period. Any repair costs or excessive cleaning charges resulting from misuse, negligence, or violation of our policies will be charged to the renter.

  • Communication and Emergencies: In the event of an emergency or if you require assistance, promptly contact Saugerties Marina's staff or in extreme cases, 911. We are here to provide you with the necessary guidance and support.

  • Water Sports: To add water sports to your day on the water, you must book with a captain.

  • Fuel: All customers are subject to a fuel charge at the end of their rental or charter. The boat leaves our dock with a full tank and is fueled back up upon arrival. When our pump clicks off, we check the meter and the fuel total is added to your bill. The amount is subject to market price but depending on your activities and time out on the water but amounts typically range from $60 - $200.

Cancellation Policy:
We require a minimum 10 days notice for cancellations. No shows or late cancellations will be charged in full for the booking. If weather is looking dangerous or we are rained out, we will be the first to call and inform you that we must make arrangements to reschedule. High winds are a judgement call made by our team usually the morning of rentals. Your safety is our priority, so please try to be understanding if we deem it unsafe for our boats to leave the dock. In these events, we'll move your deposit to a future date where both you and our boats are available and make sure you enjoy your day on the water to the fullest.
